Typically, when you do things you’ve never done before, you’d hire a coach, a teacher, a guide, or a mentor to walk you through it and learn from their experience. Why is birth any different?

Doulas are experts in the birth process who provide emotional and physical support for a birthing person and their partner during labor, delivery, and into postpartum. We offer reassurance and perspective, making suggestions for labor progress, and helping with relaxation, massage, positioning, and other techniques for your comfort.

Our doula’s goal is to be completely present for your birth experience -- physically, emotionally, and energetically. We use active listening techniques to adjust our role according to your needs and seek to promote communication among all members of your birthing team.

Some examples of what to expect in the birth space include, but aren’t limited to, a variety of comfort measures such as massage, counter pressure, guided visualization, positions and movement, breathing techniques, hot and cold packs, focus points, verbal encouragement, and other logistical support. We also bring knowledge of the stages of labor and offer information and suggestions as labor progresses. After birth, we offer guidance and education regarding lactation/ breastfeeding, baby care, and adjusting to life with your newest family member.

Overall, our doula’s goal is to make this process less overwhelming and stressful. You deserve to have a good experience of meeting your baby!
